College Portfolio Project-Fall 2016

Project Summary

The college research project is designed to help prepare juniors and seniors for the application process. Whether you are intending to go to college for dance or another subject area, this process will help you prepare your application materials. 

This project consists of three parts, the resume, the college research guide, and the college solo.

Final projects are due on Friday, October 14th, 2016.
Late submissions loose 1 point per category for each day they are late. For example, if you submit your resume and college research guide 2 days late, you will loose 2 points in each category.  No late submissions will be accepted after 11:59pm on October 21st.

How to submit your final project:
  • Show your solo in class on October 14th

Component 1: The Resume

Thank you for working and submitting your final draft of your resume on 10/4/16. The resume will be a component of this project. If there is feedback that you received on your final resume, please edit your resume and add it to this project. Here is a link to the resume page. 
 

Component 2: College Research Guide

All students are asked to complete a college research guide detailing information about four colleges that they are interested in.

Component 3: Solo

You are required to create a 2 minute solo to an instrumental piece of music.  College dance solos must:
  • Be performed to instrumental music
  • Showcase your artistry 
  • Be under 2 minutes, but no shorter than 1.5 minutes.

Here is the work schedule that you should adhere to.
  • Tuesday, October 4th
  • Wednesday, October 5th
    • ​​Students do not have time to work on this project in class. You will rehearse the Children of Sanchez rep with Mr. Diaz. 
    • Continue to work on the college research guide at homeContinue to gather music and movement ideas
  • Thursday, October 6th
    • ​​Students do not have time to work on this project in class. You will rehearse the Children of Sanchez rep with Mr. Diaz.

  • Friday, October 7th
    • ​Students will use this day to work on their solos.
    • By 3pm, students must email Ms. Z with a copy of their in progress solo and the college research guide. You must complete this task by 3pm or Ms. Z will not have time to respond with feedback.

  • Weekend: October 8th-9th
    • ​Receive feedback from Ms. Z
    • Continue to work on your solo and college research guide
  • Monday, October 10th
    • ​Students have time to integrate their feedback from Ms. Z into their solo
  • Tuesday, October 11th
    • ​Students will share their solos with the class and receive feedback
    • This showing will count as a quiz grade
  • Wednesday, October 12th
    • ​No School today
    • Use this day to integrate the feedback you received from your peers and continue to work on your college research guide
  • Thursday, October 13th
    • ​Students will have time to work on their solos
  • Friday, October 14th
    • ​Final showing: Students will present their solo and their college portfolios to the class.
