Study Dance at VPA

What We Study

Our student train in the dance styles of:
-Other styles presented by our guest artist (example: Vouge, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Hula, African Dance)

Our students study the dance topics of:
-Dance History

By the end of our program, our students:
-Choreograph a dance piece
-Create a resume, biography, and portfolio
-Earn a H.S. diploma in Dance

Who Is Eliligble to Enroll

Students in the Trenton Public School District can enroll in the 3-year Dance CTE Program. Students must:
-Complete 9th grade with 25 credits or more
-Enroll in the Visual & Performing Arts Academy at Trenton Central High School
-Enroll in Dance Classes for 3 years

Our ideal student is someone who:
-Willing to learn all dance styles
-Is an active participant, always willing to dance
-Has good attendance
-Has an interest in being a dancer, choreographer, or dance teacher
-Wants to attend college to study dance


Our student have the opportunity to perform at:
-TCHS-VPA Dance Showcases (2 per year)
-TCHS-VPA Holiday Arts Festival
-Mercer County Teen Arts Festival
-State Teen Arts Festival
-New Jersey High School Dance Festival
-Trenton Board of Education Meetings
-Middle School Tours

Our students train with guest artists from:
-Rutgers University
-Ballet Hispanico
-Hip Hop Fundamentals
-Kyle Marshall Choreography
-10 Hairy Legs
-Hofstra University
-Doug Elkins

Our student take trips to:
-Experience live dance performance  (example: The Nutcracker, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Alvin Ailey)
-Learn about college dance programs (example: Montclair State Dance Day, Rutgers University)
-Train at professional studios (example: Broadway Dance Center)
